The laser platform used at our spa can be adjusted based on your skin color and the color, thickness, and location of the hair being targeted. Laser energy delivered to the treatment area is absorbed by pigment in the hair follicles. Active hair follicles are heated up to the point where they can no longer produce hair. Because hair growth occurs in cycles, not all the hair in an area can be treated at the same time.
Before coming in for your laser hair removal treatment, we ask that you shave the treatment area. Before beginning the procedure, the nurse practitioner adjusts the laser’s settings and, in some cases, will provide eye protection. A topical cooling gel applied to the skin will help you remain comfortable during the procedure.
After performing a test to ensure the settings are optimal, the nurse completes the procedure. The length of the treatment depends on the size of the treatment area, but most procedures take between 15 and 30 minutes. Some of our guests compare the sensation of a laser treatment to a rubber band snapping the skin.
We provide ice packs or anti-inflammatory creams to ease any post-treatment discomfort. It’s especially important to use sun protection after laser hair removal. You’ll be advised about this and other aftercare considerations by your practitioner.
You’ll notice smoother skin immediately after the procedure, but after about 2 weeks, you may notice increased hair growth as the dormant follicles enter the active phase.
We recommend a series of approximately 5 to 6 treatments spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart to catch as many hairs in their active growth phase as possible. You may need additional maintenance treatments after a year or 2, although hair that grows back is usually lighter and finer than before it was treated.
