Microneedling creates micro-injuries in the treatment area using tiny needles attached to a specialized, hand-held device about the size of a pen. Your body responds to these injuries by producing more collagen as part of the healing process. Collagen helps skin look smoother and more youthful.
After completing the microneedling procedure, the nurse practitioner applies the platelet-rich fibrin–which is extracted from your own blood–and it is absorbed through the micro-channels created by the tiny needles. Platelets are rich in growth factors, boosting the skin’s ability to heal the tiny injuries caused by microneedling. PRF increases collagen and elastin, both of which are essential to tighter, smoother, and more youthful-looking skin. Additionally, platelets include important antioxidants and help hydrate the skin. PRF is used in the O-Shot®, a treatment for sexual dysfunction that we also offer at White Orchid Spa.
What to Expect
We ensure our med spa guests are comfortable and relaxed at the outset of their procedures, which take place in our discreet treatment room. The microneedling session begins with cleaning and then numbing the skin. The nurse then adjusts the handheld device to penetrate the skin at the optimal depths for your concerns. Because this is a nonsurgical and minimally invasive treatment, most of our guests experience very little downtime after the procedure.
Your Results
Results following your treatment emerge gradually as the healing process produces new collagen. You may notice some redness similar to a sunburn for about 24 to 48 hours after the treatment, along with mild swelling. Most of our med spa guests notice the first results about a week or 2 after the procedure. If this is your first microneedling treatment, we recommend a series of procedures about 4 to 6 weeks apart, and then maintenance treatment sessions every 6 months.
