Restylane® Dermal Fillers

The versatility of dermal fillers such as the Restylane family of products makes them among our med spa’s most popular treatments. Restylane fillers minimize wrinkles by restoring volume to the skin. This volume produces a more youthful appearance and subtly enhances facial contours for guests of all ages who visit our Vero Beach med spa from Melbourne, Port St. Lucie, and Sebastian, FL, and nearby communities.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers encompass a range of injectable products that enhance facial features by adding fullness. The active ingredient in most fillers, including Restylane products, is hyaluronic acid (HA). Our bodies naturally produce this hydrating molecule, which keeps the skin plump and refreshed.

What Areas Do Restylane Fillers Treat?

The evolution of fillers during the past 20 years has led to multiple specialized fillers that address specific treatment areas. The most common treatment areas include:

  • Lips (to plump and define; fill vertical lip lines)
  • Under-eye hollows (tear troughs) that can look like dark circles
  • Laugh lines or smile lines (nasolabial folds)
  • Cheeks and brows (restore lost volume)
  • Chin and jawline

Our injectors may recommend that guests consider platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) therapy as another treatment to address many of these concerns. By taking a holistic approach to filler injections, our injectors create results that enhance your face in a way that looks natural.

Your injector may alternatively recommend JUVÉDERM® dermal fillers, which treat the same areas. JUVÉDERM fillers are also formulated with hyaluronic acid.

What Are the Different Types of Restylane Fillers?

White Orchid Spa offers guests the following Restylane fillers:

Restylane Contour: Contour is one of the most recent fillers developed by Galderma, the company that makes Restylane fillers. It is an excellent option for restoring volume to the cheeks or creating the appearance of higher cheekbones. The FDA-approved cheek filler can last up to 18 months after treatment.

Restylane Refyne/Defyne: Both Refyne and Defyne are made with Restylane’s XpresHAn™ technology, which incorporates the hyaluronic acid particles in a way that enables the filler to move naturally as your face changes expressions. Our nurse practitioners inject the slightly thicker Defyne a little more deeply than Refyne to treat more severe folds, including deep laugh lines and severe nasolabial folds. Refyne works well to minimize moderate nasolabial folds, smile lines, and marionette lines.

Restylane Kysse: Approved by the FDA for lip augmentation, Kysse uses the same innovative XpresHAn™ technology that ensures your lips easily move when you speak, smile, or kiss. The results last 12 months, and maintenance treatments can help your lips continue to look naturally full.

Can You Combine Fillers With Other Treatments?

Our injectors often combine fillers with BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® injections because they treat different wrinkles. While fillers minimize lines and wrinkles caused by the loss of volume, sun damage, and other environmental factors, neuromodulators treat dynamic wrinkles, such as crow’s feet and worry lines, caused by repeated muscle contractions. Other popular treatments that complement filler results include:

During your consultation, one of our experienced providers will recommend a treatment plan personalized to your unique needs and cosmetic goals.

What Happens During a Dermal Filler Treatment?

Our primary concern when you arrive for treatment is to ensure your comfort and listen to what you want to accomplish with filler injections. Depending on your concerns, the treatment may take between 15 and 60 minutes. Our nurse injectors use a microcannula to gently place the filler under the skin, a technique that minimizes bruising and bleeding. Restylane fillers (like JUVÉDERM fillers) are pre-mixed with a local anesthetic that minimizes discomfort during the injections. Some patients also request that we apply a topical numbing cream before the procedure.

Is There Downtime After Getting Filler Injections?

Our guests resume regular routines after their treatments. You may notice some redness and swelling at the injection sites, but those aftereffects fade within hours. You’ll see results immediately, which become even more pronounced during the following week.

What To Avoid After Fillers

While there’s no need for downtime after filler treatments, it’s essential to follow these restrictions for optimal results:

  • Avoid rubbing or putting pressure on the treated areas for several hours.
  • Do not apply makeup or skincare products for the first 24 hours.
  • Hold off on vigorous exercise, saunas, sunbathing, and other activities that can dilate your blood vessels for 2 days.
  • Abstain from drinking alcohol and eating spicy food for the first 2 days.

If you have questions or concerns about what you should and should not do, please feel free to contact us.

Restylane FAQ

Which Is Better, Restylane or JUVÉDERM?

Both filler families are made from hyaluronic acid, contain lidocaine to minimize discomfort, and come in a range of formulations for specific areas. JUVÉDERM tends to be smoother than Restylane. Restylane tends to be firmer than JUVÉDERM. However, these subtle differences may not be noticeable when the filler is injected. The choice between the two often depends on specific cosmetic goals, age, skin type, and the recommendation of your injector.

How Long Does Restylane Really Last?

The duration of Restylane results depends on the product used, where it’s injected, and how quickly your body breaks it down. Here is a general estimation of each filler’s longevity:

  • Restylane: up to 18 months
  • Contour: up to 18 months
  • Refyne/Defyne: up to 1 year
  • Kysse: up to 1 year

What Happens If You Stop Using Restylane?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are gradually broken down and absorbed, so improvements will eventually disappear, and the natural aging process will resume.

Can I Combine Different Dermal Filler Products?

Absolutely! While different fillers are formulated to have distinct benefits, most “play nice” together. Our providers understand the differences between fillers and will choose the best product for the job, which may be Restylane Contour for your cheeks and JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® for your lips.

Does Restylane Look Better Over Time?

While you will see an improvement right after your treatment, the results may look softer and more natural once swelling fades and the filler integrates with your skin, which may take a week or two.
