3 Facial Rejuvenation Treatments You Should Try This Summer

White Orchid Spa

We all know that one of the great things about Florida is that the sun shines more than 230 days a year and just about every day during the summer. Unfortunately, those sunny days create problems for many patients who decide on facial rejuvenation treatments at our Vero Beach med spa.

Many facial treatments require patients to avoid sun exposure during the recovery period, something that can be frustrating when friends and family may be soaking in the rays (with plenty of sunscreen applied, of course!)

Some treatments aren’t best for sun exposure…

Several nonsurgical cosmetic procedures designed to enhance your skin actually work by temporarily weakening it first. Laser skin resurfacing, intense pulsed light (IPL), and microneedling all tend to target the skin’s outer layer. For example, microneedling with platelet-rich plasma injections create tiny wounds on the skin’s exterior. The healing process creates more youthful-looking skin because it triggers the production of new collagen and elastin. That said, the nature of the treatment makes it even more important to protect yourself from the sun during the recovery.

Fractional laser systems such as Halo® that we use at White Orchid Spa create less damage to the skin’s surface than ablative laser treatments—meaning there’s less downtime after each procedure. The trade-off? Patients typically need more than 1 treatment to achieve their desired results, and that means staying out of the sun to protect the sensitive skin.

These might be a better fit for the season.

We do offer facial rejuvenation procedures that require less downtime, which makes them more appealing during the summer months:

  • HydraFacial MD: This is one of the most popular procedures we offer, and it’s ideal for women in their 20s and 30s who want a noninvasive treatment with no downtime. It only takes about 30 minutes and produces immediate results by removing dead skin cells and extracting impurities. A monthly HydraFacial MD treatment is a great way to maintain a healthy, radiant complexion.
  • Dermaplaning: A 30-minute dermaplaning treatment exfoliates the skin’s outer layer, creating a refreshed, smoother appearance without any downtime. Some people compare dermaplaning to shaving, but it’s much more than that. The results appear immediately and can last up to 4 weeks—monthly treatments are perfect for keeping your skin smooth and refreshed. Dermaplaning can also prepare your skin to more efficiently absorb serums or other skin care products that may be part of your beauty regimen.
  • Facial Fillers: Dermal fillers, such as the JUVÉDERM® family of products, can turn back the clock without downtime. We use JUVÉDERM at our Vero Beach med spa to minimize wrinkles and fine lines by restoring volume to target areas of the face. No special protection from the sun is needed after treatment other than applying sunscreen. Results are immediate and will last for 6 to 18 months, depending on the filler used.

Here’s a look at the type of results produced by JUVÉDERM VOLLURE®, a filler designed to treat wrinkles and lines around the mouth:

There’s no getting away from the fact that the sun can cause significant, long-term damage to your skin. Sun exposure accounts for most of the damage to the skin. One of the best ways to protect against that damage—and keep your skin looking great—is to put on sunscreen before going outdoors. Quality sunscreens with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 applied daily can help prevent much of the damage caused by the sun.
