How Long Does It Take for Hair Restoration to Work?

Is it possible to find an effective hair loss treatment with minimal downtime that produces results within a few months? At White Orchid Spa, we now offer platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) treatments for men and women with thinning hair, harnessing the growth factors contained in your own blood to reinvigorate hair follicles.

PRF hair loss treatments are especially effective when combined with AnteAGE MD® Home Hair System, which stimulates dormant stem cells inside hair follicles, returning them to a more youthful and active growth pattern.

What Causes Hair Loss?

Heredity, hormonal changes, medical conditions, or just getting older can cause men and women to lose their hair. Stress, nutrition deficiencies, and even hair care habits (blow drying, bleaching, or pulling your hair tight in ponytails) are other reasons for hair loss.

Even though hair loss is more common among men, it’s estimated that 21 million women in the U.S. have androgenetic alopecia—the female version of male pattern baldness. Unlike men, however, women rarely lose all of their hair. Hair loss in women typically starts at the top of the head or at the part. Men, on the other hand, begin noticing a receding hairline.

Hair Growth Cycles

When thinking about how long it will take for hair restoration treatments to work, it’s important to understand the cyclical nature of how hair grows. Hair growth involves 3 distinct phases: the active growth phase (anagen), the regressing phase (catagen), and the resting, or dormant, phase (telogen). At any point in time, about 85% of the hair on the scalp is in the active growth phase, with approximately 14% in the dormant stage and 1% in the regressing phase.

The Beauty of Nonsurgical Hair Restoration

You may have heard of using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for hair restoration. PRP is probably best known as a treatment that accelerates healing for injuries suffered by athletes, but it has multiple aesthetic benefits that include promoting hair growth and skin rejuvenation.

Platelet-rich fibrin is the next generation of PRP. It’s more potent and produces even better results than PRP hair restoration treatments. PRF is obtained in a process that’s very similar to the process that produces PRP. We draw a small amount of blood, just like it’s done for routine blood tests, and then use a centrifuge to separate the blood’s fibrin matrix from the plasma. This fibrin matrix is composed of platelet cytokines, growth factors, and stem cells.

But unlike the process used to prepare PRP, which involves using an anticoagulant, PRF does not contain any additives. When injected, the growth factors and stem cells contained in PRF remain in the area of hair loss. In contrast, PRP sometimes diffuses into adjacent areas of the scalp.

What Happens During PRF Hair Restoration Procedures?

While the blood is being prepared, the patient’s scalp will be numbed with a topical anesthetic cream to make the treatment virtually painless. Once the serum is isolated, it will be strategically injected with very fine needles into the scalp where hair loss or hair thinning has occurred. The treatment time typically ranges from 45 minutes to an hour. No downtime is needed, but you may need to take over-the-counter pain relief medication to relieve discomfort.

We recommend med spa guests schedule 4 PRF hair restoration therapy treatments. Each treatment should be about a month after the previous procedure, and results begin to develop in about 3 to 6 months.

Maintenance treatments during the first year should be scheduled every 3 months, with subsequent sessions after a year if desired.

What Is the AnteAGE MD Home Hair System?

Combining AnteAGE MD hair serum with PRF treatments promotes the natural growth of healthy hair. The AnteAGE serum includes a cocktail of ingredients, including cytokines and other growth factors, that naturally stimulate dormant follicles, encouraging longer hair growth cycles. A microneedling device designed for at-home use is also included in the AnteAGE kit, which helps the serum penetrate the scalp more efficiently.

You can apply AnteAGE MD hair serum up to 5 days a week to enhance the results of PRF hair restoration treatments performed at our med spa.
