Our nurse injectors offer Dysport in addition to BOTOX® Cosmetic at our Vero Beach med spa because some patients from Melbourne, Sebastian, and Port St. Lucie find that one produces more satisfying results than the other. Dysport is an FDA-approved treatment that is often used to reduce crow’s feet, frown lines, and other expression lines. Our injectors use Dysport conservatively to soften these fine lines and wrinkles, producing natural-looking results.  

What’s the Difference Between Dysport and BOTOX? 

Even though Dysport and BOTOX are very similar, they have some differences. Both work by relaxing muscles that cause “dynamic” wrinkles—lines caused by squinting, smiling, frowning, appearing surprised, or other changes in facial expression. The different formulations used for Dysport and BOTOX create some differences. For example, Dysport spreads a bit more than BOTOX. Our nurse injectors consider these differences when treating a patient with Dysport.  

Dysport tends to show results a few days sooner than BOTOX and is considered a bit more potent than BOTOX, but both generally last 3 to 4 months.

What Does Dysport Treat? 

Many wrinkles and lines that emerge first are caused by muscle contractions when our faces make expressions. Dysport treats these wrinkles by temporarily limiting muscle movements. Common targets of Dysport injections include: 

• Crow’s feet that develop at the corners of the eyes 
• Vertical frown lines, or worry lines, that form between the eyebrows 
• Horizontal forehead lines 

These wrinkles differ from those treated with dermal fillers, such as JUVÉDERM® or Restylane products, that result primarily from natural aging and sun damage.

Combining Dysport With Fillers for a Liquid Facelift

Because Dysport addresses dynamic wrinkles but does not replace volume, we can produce comprehensive facial rejuvenation by combining it with dermal filler injections. Restylane® and other options can replace volume on the cheeks, fill in tear troughs and depressions around the eyes and at the temples, and much more. SKINVIVE by JUVÉDERM®, which involves microdroplet injections, can increase the skin’s radiance and help it feel silky smooth. These personalized combination treatments are sometimes called a “liquid facelift” because they consist of injections, not surgery.

What Happens During a Dysport Treatment? 

After one of our nurse injectors listens to you describe your cosmetic goals, she closely examines your face and precisely locates the optimal locations for the injections. Before injecting Dysport, we may ice the treatment area or apply a topical numbing cream to ensure you remain comfortable during the injections, which take only seconds. The injection process typically lasts between 10 and 15 minutes.  

You may see some slight redness and swelling after the injections, along with experiencing some tenderness. Most patients require little to no downtime.
